Day 3 - Washington DC

Chronically tired from a few big days traveling, we got a couple of hours sleep in the early hours of Wednesday morning knowing we'd only have 1 full day in Washington - sleep deprivation wasn't going to stop us!

We headed out and got some breakfast at a great cafe at the end of our street.  Seems that Washington is full of cafes but this one was certainly a great pick.  We sat down to a huge Ham & Cheese omelet and massive coffee (this did help with sleep deprivation:)).

The day in Washington was HOT!!!!  Once breakfast was done, we headed past DuPont Circle and down Massecussets avenue to visit the White House (no sign of Mr Obama).  Probably a 5-6 KM walk.  Police and security presence was massive and they had blocked off Pensylvania Ave to traffic but it was hard to work out why until we heard a couple of helicopters setting to land at the White House.

Strangely there was a sense of feeling safe around there even with snipers on the rooftop.  The Secret Service were everywhere and Ian was amused that their bullet proof vests were clearly labeled "Secret Service" and Ian thought, well, not so secret anymore ... We can all see you!

We walked around the Washington Monument, WW2 Memorial, Lincoln memorial and found ourselves on a hop-on-hop-off bus that was heading to Arlington Cemetary, past the Pentagon.  Arlington Cemetry was an amazing place to see and we were lucky enough to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - very impressive.

Sadly we did miss visiting Congress but I think we did pretty well in 1 day.  By the end of the day we were hot, tired and a little tinged by the sun.  Unfortunately we missed going to a great restaurant for dinner (as recommended by Hel) because we were both pretty tired and done with walking for the day.

We will definitely be back here, as we both love Washington.

** As you can see - having trouble with pics again ... Stay tuned ***

Day 2 - San Francisco to Washington

After a good 12 hours sleep we woke feeling much more refreshed and ready to take on a 5 hour flight to Washington.  First challenge though was to track-down breakfast and a decent coffee.  Considering we had limited time, we didn't do a bad job of finding either.

We got to the airport and had to check your own baggage but wasn't too daunting but found ourselves in the back row and sitting on opposite sides of the plane (the flight was apparently booked out). When we got on board, there were available seats and we actually have a row to ourselves (who says United Airlines are shit😉).  Because we have the worst seats, we also got free drink and food ...YAY!

We left on time and got to Washington on time which was great considering it was 9 PM after the 5 hour flight and losing another 3 hours.  Still awake though @ 4am😳

Sorry about the lack of pics but we should have some later today after a day of sightseeing.

Will be very happy not to have to fly for another week!

Day 1 - 29 August 2016

The day that keeps on giving!

Got to the airport and so far v uneventful for me!  Ian on the other hand had a full body scan ... Nice to see they've moved on from me.  There's still the boarding gate to get through😉
Well, strangely, I boarded without incident and we were soon on our way.  We arrived a little ahead of schedule in San Francisco this morning.  Nothing to report today - we're both too tired to remember our own names!  Early night for us, then off to Washington tomorrow.
